Army veteran kayaking the length of Britain in unique challenge

An army veteran is attempting to paddle the length of Britain in a solo challenge to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War. Dan Smith, is presently kayaking from Durness on the north coast of Scotland to Little Hampton on the South coast of England, to raise £25,000 for the Royal British Legion.

Sarah Rogers went to meet him as he passed through the region:

Dan started the solo challenge four weeks ago. He will be passing Manchester on Wednesday and will be joined for a short part of it by a number of other local veterans who are part of the new programme, Moving Forces.

Dan's trip will take him approximately 60 days in total, and has never been attempted before. To find out more click here
