A man who injured his head after being blown over during Storm Ali has died.

85 year old James Tattersall from Lancashire was visiting Wales with his wife of 55 years, to celebrate their wedding anniversary.

They were walking with linked arms back to their hotel in the Welsh town of Llandudno when a gust of wind blew them both off their feet.

The grandfather-of-four and his wife Anne were attended to by paramedics and the police.

Mrs Tattersall received a blow to her head and hurt her hip.

Mr Tattersall was rushed to hospital with more serious injuries, and died at 3.20am on Thursday surrounded by his family.

Paying tribute to her husband, Anne Tattersall thanked the people who came to their aid, especially a farmer who stayed with her until the ambulance took her and her husband away.

His wife said: "What I'll miss is his jokes and companionship. We always had a laugh together."

"Even though this is a terrible shock, I've just got to get on with it. Jim would want that."

The funeral of James Tattersall will take place on Monday at 2.30pm in St Luke's Church in Brierfield.
