The Barrow MP John Woodcock has told ITV Granada Reports exclusively why he's taken the decision to quit the Labour Party.

In his only television interview since leaving, Mr Woodcock says he can no longer represent an area where thousands of jobs depend on building nuclear submarines while Labour is led by Jeremy Corbyn, who is a long-standing opponent of nuclear weapons.

Mr Woodcock is now standing as an independent - he's calling for MPs of all sides to come together to form a new political party.

Mr Woodcock's constituents had mixed views over whether he should stay in the job.
