Football fans heading abroad to watch the World Cup are being asked to keep an eye out for an escaped murderer from Liverpool.

Shaun Walmsley escaped from prison officers during a visit to Aintree University Hospital more than a year ago.

Police believe he fled abroad, and are working with police forces across the UK and overseas.

Walmsley was serving a life sentence for the murder of Anthony Duffy and police have warned that he is extremely dangerous.

They're asking football fans to take another look at Walmsley's photograph, and report any sightings at home or abroad to the authorities.

Merseyside Police added that any images, footage or information could be exceptionally valuable.

There is currently a reward of £20,000 on offer for information leading to the apprehension of Walmsley and his return to prison.

"Officers are reminding the public not to approach Walmsley if they see him, as he is could be in the company of others who helped him escape and they are believed to be armed."
