Passengers share commuter misery as fresh strikes hit Northern Rail services

Passengers on social media this morning were sharing frustrations as fresh RMT strikes coincided with an emergency timetable on Northern Rail.

Union members are walking out in the second of three strikes this week as part of an ongoing dispute over driver-only trains.

The RMT says removing guards from trains is a safety issue, while Northern Rail have apologised to customers for recent disruption and say they are working as hard as they can to fix the problems.

Here's what commuters experienced this morning:

  • Full trains

Passengers reported up to a hundred people being left behind at some stops because trains were too full to allow any new commuters to board.

Hogan Farnworth tweeted from Wigan that the train was already full before it left it's first stop, writing "no chance of anyone getting on over the next 4 or 5 stops".

  • Cancelled services

  • Stops removed

  • Communication issues

The strike this week has prompted calls from the region's two Metro Mayors for the RMT union to postpone the strike - as passengers have already faced "unacceptable levels of disruption".
