WATCH: Police launch fresh search of tip as part of investigation into Manchester Arena terror attack
Police investigating last year's Manchester Arena terror attack have launched a fresh search of a tip.
Officers are combing through the Viridor Waste Management site, located just off the M66 between Heywood and Bury in Greater Manchester, this afternoon.
A tactical aid unit van and another two Greater Manchester Police vehicles are parked outside the Pilsworth Road site.
A spokeswoman for GMP said:
It is understood police could be there for several hours or even days.
Around 15 Tactical Aid Unit officers could be seen searching in bushes surrounding the site.
They can also been seen going behind a fenced area within the tip itself.
In the days following the Manchester Arena attack, in May 2017, officers did a painstaking search of the dump.
Officers were searching for a blue suitcase used by Salman Abedi.
A spokeswoman for GMP has confirmed this search is definitely not connected to the terror arrests in Whitefield last week.
Last week two men, aged 23 and 24, were arrested on suspicion of terrorism items following reports of suspicious items at a house on Victoria Avenue, in Whitefield.
They remain in custody.
