Speaking on the ITV1 chat show Lorraine the actor said:

Eighty four men die as a result of suicide every week in the UK and the soap is aiming to raise awareness of the issue through the story of factory boss Aidan, who has been hiding a silent mental anguish.

In tonight's heartbreaking hour-long episode a broken Johnny Connor, played by Richard, will let himself into Aidan's flat to find that his beloved boy has taken his own life.
