Electricity has been restored to 16,000 properties across the region.

Although with weather conditions hampering some rural areas might be without power overnight.

Electricity North West engineers have been battling against high winds and drifting snow to reach damaged overhead lines.

There's continuing snow showers, with further snow fall predicted later, and high winds until midnight, making repairing damaged power sources tricky.

There are now 400 engineers working to restore power to the 1,900 properties left in the region. More overhead lines teams have been called in to help from around the UK and Northern Ireland.

Latest restoration numbers:

  • 5,000 properties in Cumbria restored with 1,000 remaining

  • 5,000 properties in Lancashire restored with 500 remaining

  • 6,000 properties in the Peak District restored with 400 remaining

Electricity North West Incident Manager, Chris Fox said:

Electricity North West will contact all customers once all the power cuts have been restored to notify those who have been without electricity for more than 12 hours offering goodwill payments for the inconvenience of being without power.
