Carillion: school's lucky escape after breaking with firm just days before collapse
The head of a school in Greater Manchester which, up until last week, was run by the collapsed group Carillion, says it's had a lucky escape.
The Discovery Academy in Hattersley was sponsored and managed by the firm.
It decided to break away after heeding profit warnings in 2017.
Executive Head Teacher Karen Burns says it prompted her to put measures in place to protect staff, pupils, and their families.
But what would have happened to the school otherwise?
Like hundreds of other schools across the country, the academy still has cleaning, catering and care-taking contracts with Carillion.
But management and sponsorship has been moved elsewhere. The school is now run under a new name and operating as the Victorious Academies Trust.
But has it dodged a bullet?
Karen Burns says their thoughts are will Carillion staff.
