Council leader dies after heart attack whilst delivering Christmas cards
Tributes have been paid to the leader of Tameside Council who died on Christmas Day after suffering a heart attack.
Councillor Kieran Quinn was taken to hospital on Saturday, December 23rd, following a fall precipitated by a heart attack.
He was taken ill while he was delivering Christmas cards to Droylsden constituents alongside his wife, Councillor Susan Quinn.
Cllr Quinn died on Monday evening, with his wife, two sons and other family members at his bedside.
Paying tribute to Cllr Quinn, Oldham West MP Jim McMahon tweeted:
"Heartbreaking. Keiran was a decent man, Labour to his bones and will be sorely missed. Can’t begin to think about the hurt Sue and the family are going through. My love to them all."
Cllr Quinn was first elected to Tameside Council in 1994 and became the executive leader in 2010.
As well as his role as council leader Cllr Quinn was chairman of the Greater Manchester Pension Fund and a supporter of devolution for the region.
