Christmas comes early to Manchester as Pixie Lott is announced as one of the stars attending the big switch-on

With just six days to go until Manchester's Christmas lights are switched on, excitement is building in the city.

The huge free event, which includes a spectacular firework display, will take place outside the town hall on Saturday, November 4, at 7.30pm.

Thousands are expected to gather for the event, and Pixie Lott is the latest pop star to have been named amongst the guests of honour. She'll join global superstar DJ Sigala and up and coming boy band Yes Lad.

The show will also see a host of performances from a dazzling array of stars of stage and screen, including lead cast members of Elf: The Musical, Shrek, and Guys and Dolls.

Key 103's breakfast hosts Mike Toolan and Matt Hallam will compere the show with the help of Corrie's Brooke Vincent.

Spectators are being asked to plan ahead with organisers warning that once Albert Square reaches capacity, access into the area will be restricted.

A number of road closures will also be in place on the evening and bag searches will be in operation.
