A fire at the Wing Fat cash and carry supermarket is producing huge plumes of smoke which can be seen across Greater Manchester.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Ashton Old Road, in Beswick, just after 11.20am on Tuesday morning.

Eight fire engines are attending the scene and residents have been urged to keep doors and windows closed.

Images shared on social media show grey smoke billowing as far as Ancoats, Gorton and Ardwick.

Ashton Old Road is closed in both directions due to the fire between Pottery Lane and Chancellor Lane.
