Roadworks to reconstruct a bridge leading into the Isle of Man's capital will last for 17 weeks.

Yesterday work began on the Mwyllin-e-Quinney bridge located on the Santon Burn, Old Castletown Road.

The Highways division has stated that the road will be closed until 6pm on 24 November, or until the bridge reconstruction work is completed.

A new three-span concrete bridge supported by steel beams will replace the existing one, as well as retaining walls.

Pedestrian access will be supported by a temporary footbridge, and a traffic diversion will be in place from the Old Castletown Road via Ballavale Road on to the A5 New Castletown Road.
