What happens to your hold luggage at Manchester Airport
If you have ever wondered what happens to your hold luggage after your drop it at Manchester Airport check-in, then this is the video for you.
While you meander your way through security, maybe browse some Duty Free as you wait to board your plane, your bag is making a journey all of its own.
This Manchester Evening News footage, filmed in Manchester Airport’s Terminal 2, shows a bag travelling along the conveyor belt, making its way through the hub’s hidden corridors.
Bags are entered into the system at the check-in desks by airline staff.
They attach a luggage tag which has its own unique barcode indicating the bag’s destination and route.
This is read by a barcode scanner and routed through the network of conveyors to the correct collection chute for processing by baggage handling staff.
On route it passes through X-ray machines and other security devices before the tag is scanned again by a baggage handler at the collection chute.
The bags are then loaded onto carts and driven out to the aircraft for loading into the hold.
The footage really gives you an idea of just what happens until it is received by a baggage handler.
