£7m scheme to protect homes from floods
A £7million scheme to help protect hundreds of homes in a village devastated by floods is about to be unveiled.
Croston was one of the areas worst hit by flooding on Boxing Day 2015.
A total of 344 homes were affected and some villagers spent many months in temporary accommodation.
Now the Croston Flood Risk Management Scheme will be unveiled on Thursday.
The scheme includes an upstream flood storage area on the River Yarrow and a 600metre earth embankment.
It's said to reduce the flood risk for properties from 5% to less than 1% in any one year.
The Environment Agency says that while the risk is reduced, people living in this and other flood risk areas should sign up for flood warnings. For more info click here.
