IoM campaign group reveals number of abortions in UK during 2016
A campaign group on the Isle of Man which wants abortion legislation amended has revealed how many women travelled to the UK for an abortion last year.
Figures obtained by Campaign For Abortion Law Modernisation from abortion clinics show 88 women travelled abroad, as women can only have an abortion if pregnancy seriously risks her physical or mental health.
CALM says that this means over seven women a month have to receive treatment in UK clinics.
In January, Dr Alex Allinson MHK called for Government to re-draft the Termination of Pregnancy Act 1995 - the House of Keys voted 21 to 3 in favour to permit Dr Allinson to introduce the Bill.
