English Democrats announce Gr. Mcr Mayor candidate

The English Democrats have announced Stephen Morris as its candidate for the Greater Manchester Mayoral election.

Since joining the English Democrats he has stood in various elections in Greater Manchester and was the key figure behind the successful campaign to force the Labour controlled Salford Council to have a referendum and then to have to adopt a directly elected Executive Mayor for Salford.

Stephen Morris said:

I was born, raised, live and have worked all my life in Greater Manchester. I have worked in retail and public transport where I was the Unite Branch Secretary until moving to the Workers of England Union and, in 2015, becoming the General Secretary. My manifesto, my contract with you, guarantees ‘Local Jobs for Local People’, a living wage, social housing and a public transport fit for purpose. I know what it takes for businesses to survive; I know what we need to do to make public transport an attractive option to use.”I know how to tackle the appalling child poverty, deprivation and homelessness spreading across our area under Labour. I will make sure that businesses tendering for Greater Manchester local authority contracts have to have Family-Friendly Policies, they reject zero hour contracts, they implement the Greater Manchester 'Living Wage' and local people are given priority in job vacancies.” My health and social care plans will make Greater Manchester a healthier and more prosperous place to live and work.” I support the campaign for ‘Local Jobs for Local People.
