Shrove Tuesday: Super simple 3-2-1 pancake recipe
As the nation celebrates Pancake Day - here's some history on the day, as well as a simple recipe for you to enjoy.
Shrove Tuesday is celebrated by Christians, and marks the last day before Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter.
Lent was traditionally a time of fasting and on Shrove Tuesday, Anglo-Saxon Christians went to confession and were “shriven”.
Shrove Tuesday was also the last opportunity to use up eggs and fats before embarking on the Lenten fast.
Pancakes became the perfect way of using up the ingredients people could no longer eat, and the day quickly also became known as pancake day.
The day always falls 47 days before Easter so the date changes but it will always be between 3 February and 9 March.
