Watch: kids play dangerous 'chicken' on busway lines
This is the moment a child appears to play a dangerous game of ‘chicken’ on the Leigh Guided Busway as his laughing friends watch on.
The youngster was caught on camera lying on the tracks as his two mates messed around on the platform.
The trio, who were reportedly seen throwing stones at electronic signs, are then seen running off along the tracks in the footage, caught on a mobile phone.
There are concerns an increasing number of children are playing on the busway - and that one could soon be left seriously hurt.
The buses travel along tunnels in the concrete, with guide wheels fitted to vehicles.
The guideway, which connects Leigh to Manchester, is completely cut off to other traffic.
Transport bosses are worried that children playing on the tracks may not hear buses approaching at speed as their hybrid engines are extremely quiet.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) bosses are reviewing CCTV footage around the Cooling Lane section of the busway, in Tyldesley in Wigan, following the incident on Sunday February 12.
Patrols are being stepped up in anti-social behaviour hotspots.
Thousands of people have viewed the footage on Facebook.
The person who filmed it asked not to be named. They said there have been a number of incidents of children playing on the busway tracks and vandalising signs in recent weeks.A TfGM spokeswoman said:
Transport chiefs have been visiting a number of schools in Greater Manchester to warn them of the dangers of playing on the tracks.
