Mother shares hospital bed photo to raise funds for her son's cancer treatment
A mother from Denton has shared a heartbreaking image of her son in his hospital bed as part of a fundraising drive for potentially life-saving cancer treatment.
Elliott Fernandez, 19, was diagnosed with a rare form of sarcoma cancer back in February last year. Despite emergency surgery, his family were told when he was on life support he may not make it through the night. They were then told he was unlikely to walk again.
Elliott defied doctors and learned to eat and walk again as he battled his way back to health. But the family received devastating news over Christmas and New Year that he had suffered a relapse.
He is now back at home being treated with alternative therapies, including cannabis oil, by his mum Beverley Clarke Fernandez, 60. Elliott’s family are refusing to give up the fight.
Beverley said: “He’s my hero and always will be. His strength and determination are unbelievable and he’s the kindest, most thoughtful boy you could ever meet."
The teen, from Denton, was a ballboy at his beloved Manchester City for nine years before he fell ill.
He even placed the ball-on-the-spot for the corner which led to Edin Dzeko’s equaliser in the Blues’ legendary 3-2 win over QPR in 2012, which won them the Premier League title.
A clinic in Germany have said they believe they can treat Elliott. Beverley has set up a crowdfunding campaign to raise at least £100,000 to pay for the treatment. It raised more than £11,000 in just over 24 hours.
