Bus driver's IOU sparks massive on-line row
A bus driver who wrote out an 'IOU' slip to a boy on the Isle of Man has been heavily criticised by the public on social media.
12-year-old Jackson Parker's mum, Suzanne, from Douglas, posted a Facebook message saying what she thought about the treatment of her son, who was given a piece of paper by the driver with the amount to be owed from £10.
Jackson's actual fare was only 70p but he did not have the correct change.
Facebookers in their hundreds took to the post, stating that the driver was a 'jobsworth', while others said the boy's mother should have given correct change to him beforehand.
Suzanne deleted the post on Sunday after more than 700 comments were made.
Ian Longworth, the company's director of public transport said: "The driver acted appropriately in this situation and the event has been spun completely out of proportion - we cater for hundreds of passengers and have smart cards, Day Saver tickets and can be bought on buses."
