Hug for Prince Harry from five-year-old Wellchild winner

A young boy whose debilitating medical condition means he is barely able to walk has used his strength to stand up and give Prince Harry a hug.

Ollie Carroll, five, suffers from the rare Batten disease, which affects his mobility and will soon lead to the point where his muscles stop working.

But when the youngster, from Poynton, Cheshire, met Harry at the WellChild awards - where he was receiving the Inspirational Child award for ages four to six - he stood up to embrace Harry.

The Prince, who is patron of the WellChild charity, was at the event to recognise the courage of children living with serious illness and the medical professionals who care for them.

Ollie's mother Lucy said she was not sure whether he knew who he was hugging, but he was instinctively drawn to Harry, leaving his arms tightly wrapped around his neck for several seconds.She said: "He was thrilled - they both were. He (Harry) is very privileged because Ollie cannot stand up by himself and he used his strength to stand up and hug him."

Eleven young winners were chosen at the awards from hundreds of nominations, as well as a host of adult recipients.
