Scouse and Manc accents 'to die out in 50 years'

The Scouse and Manchester accent will die out by 2066, according to new research.

A rise in talking to machines will impact the way we speak so much that in 50 years time a number of beloved accents will die out in favour of text speak, it is claimed.

Dr Dominic Watt, author and sociolinguistics expert said: "Technology is a source of innovation, there's lots of words coming in.

"It's conceivable some of the words that come into English in the next 50 years will be invented by computers.

"As computers become more sophisticated and more intelligent they may start creating words, feeding them back to us."

The ‘Sounds of the Future’ report highlights the changes happening due to technological advances which are simplifying how we communicate.

These include the use of text speak, the rise in Chinese and Spanish languages globally and the increase in people moving from region to region to either live or work.
