Labour members in the Liverpool City Region have until Friday 5th August to select their candidate in the race to become the region's first ever Metro Mayor.

The election takes place in May 2017 and the new Mayor will have powers of transport, planning, housing and education with a £900m budget devolved from Central Government.

Our Political Correspondent Daniel Hewitt asked the 3 contender - Joe Anderson, Luciana Berger and Steve Rotheram - to take us to a place in Merseyside that means something to them.

Mr Anderson has the Mayor of Liverpool since 2012 but has had his sights on this new job ever since the devolution deal was first discussed.

In an in-depth interview about his life before politics, his opponents, why he never wanted to be an MP, and his plans for the Liverpool City Region, Joe Anderson takes us to Southport.
