Safety concerns as child pictured riding the back of motorbike
A young child was captured on camera riding on the back of a motorbike travelling 'between 30 or 40 mph.'
The incident was captured on camera by a shocked eye-witness
This picture shows a young girl aged about six ‘hanging on’ as she rides pillion on a powerful motorbike as it rides away from a junction.
The girl, wearing leggings, a cardigan and sandals, is so small her feet can only just reach the foot pegs of the powerful machine.
Witnesses say her little arms struggled to reach around the waist of the adult rider, although both were wearing helmets.
The incident was captured on camera by shocked eye-witness Will Lister, who sent his picture to the Manchester Evening News and to the police.
He feared the young girl would ‘fall off at any moment’.It happened on Saturday lunchtime on Yew Tree Road in Fallowfield.
Will estimated the bike was travelling between 30 and 40mph.
The law does not have a minimum age for motorbike pillion passengers, although they must be able to reach the foot pegs, must wear a correctly-fitted helmet and if they are under 16 they must have permission from their parents or guardian.
