The Mayors of Liverpool and Manchester are forming a new working partnership to make sure the city regions get the best deals in the wake of the Brexit vote.
Joe Anderson and Tony Lloyd want to quash uncertainty and help guarantee the so-called 'Northern Powerhouse' remains a key Government commitment.
The two cities have often been seen as rivals particularly when it comes to football but the Mayors want to put that aside in the interests of the region's future.
They are concerned about the threat that Brexit may be to the region's financial sector and therefore want to ensure the Government fights for jobs in the North West region rather than just in and around London.
Both City Regions will meet in the near future to decide the content of a concordat to be signed by both Combined Authorities.
