John Sheridan leaves Oldham for Notts Country
John Sheridan has left Oldham to become the new Notts County manager after a compensation package was agreed between the two clubs.
Sheridan, who returned for a second spell in charge of Oldham in January and kept the club in Sky Bet League One, has signed a three-year contract at Meadow Lane following a financial settlement relating to the year he had remaining on his deal with the Latics.
The 51-year-old succeeds Mark Cooper who left on May 9 to take over at National League side Forest Green.
Notts County also agreed a deal with Chesterfield to allow Mark Crossley to leave and be reunited alongside Sheridan, having worked together at the Spireites, as assistant manager.
Alan Smith, Mike Edwards and Kevin Pilkington complete the Magpies backroom set-up, whilst retaining their playing registrations.
Sheridan said:
Sheridan was linked with the County job at the turn of the year before the Magpies appointed Jamie Fullarton, following the departure of Ricardo Moniz. He has previously worked with Notts County chief executive Jason Turner at Newport, where he was manager for three months prior to his return to Oldham.
The Magpies have been up for sale since March when owner Ray Trew announced he was stepping down as chairman.
