Teenagers arrested after two men die in car crash
Two teenagers have been arrested after a car crash that killed two men in Manchester.
Hamzaa Jacob Iqbal, 24, died after the car he was travelling in hit a signpost and two parked cars on Wilbraham Road in Whalley Range. A 20-year-old man, who has not yet been named, also died at the scene.
A 21-year-old man suffered serious injuries and is currently in a serious condition in hospital.
Police arrested two teenagers, aged 17 and 19, on Wednesday night, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The 17-year-old boy is in police custody while the 19-year-old man is being treated in hospital under police guard.
Police observed the car driving at ‘high speed’ on Wilbraham Road shortly after 3am on Tuesday, April 27.
Officers began to follow the vehicle before it veered off the road a short time later.
Friends of Hamzaa Jacob Iqbal, from Burnage, have paid tribute to the popular, talented cricketer.
Jay Ali Khan said: “He was a great lad. I just can’t get my head around it. It’s shocking.
“I really feel sorry for his family because he’s such a young lad and he had a bright future ahead of him.”
The Greater Manchester Police Professional Standards Branch has been informed. The case has been automatically referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
