Mayor labelled "David Brent" after "self-indulgent" leaving speech
An outgoing Mayor was labelled a 'David Brent' after making a farewell speech praising himself and quoting Latin.
Scot born Salford Mayor Mr Ian Stewart took to his feet for an hour-long speech to councillors about his adopted city and the improvements under his tenure.
He also included a quote in Latin,, one he attributed to himself. And one slide featured a picture of him superimposed onto an image Salford University.
One councillor said it was:
In his speech he said he predicted the internet age before others had cottoned on.

Then his audience were left scratching their heads when he started quoting Latin. He told the audience:
The thought provoking quote was included in a slide of Mr Stewart's power point presentation. It means:
Underneath the quote is his name City Mayor Ian Stewart.
Much of Mr Stewart’s speech concentrated on how he’s helped to shape Salford’s regeneration.
Mr Stewart even included a picture of himself in his presentation.
