The shocking moment a carer was caught red-handed stealing cash from her vulnerable neighbour is to be shown on national television.

Shameless Lisa Cobane, 32, used distraction techniques to help her swipe £20 from the home of elderly multiple sclerosis sufferer Malcolm Gill.

Out of work hairdresser Cobane was supposed to be looking after Mr Gill, 66, after offering to lend a hand whilst permanent carers were found.

However secret cameras at his Stockport home showed her pointing to some dirt and saying ‘What’s that on the window?’ to distract him before pocketing the cash.

Though the unsuspecting crook didn’t know the money was put there by Mr Gill’s niece Louis Gill who set up a sting with private detectives.

The footage was handed to and published by the Manchester Evening News and Cobane was later arrested and charged with theft, with the damning video used as evidence in court.

Cobane claimed she was owed the money and was merely collecting it on the day of the incident in August 2012.

Mr Gill’s relatives were left furious after she walked free from Stockport Magistrates court in February 2013 after being handed a suspended 12-week jail term.

Cobane, of Grindleton Avenue, Sharston, Wythenshawe, was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay her victim £120 compensation, as well as £85 costs.

And they will again express their again as the story is told in ITV’s Heroes and Villains: Caught on Camera, which first airs at 9pm tonight.

Part of the show looks at how the public have used CCTV to track down criminals and take matters into their own hands.

Speaking after the hearing three years ago Louis Gill said:
