A young woman from Rossendale with cystic fibrosis has been left heartbroken after being told her Turkish husband cannot join her to live in the UK.

Nansi Say’s husband Ramiz, who she wed in November 2014 after a two-year romance, applied for a spouse visa from the Home Office last September, only for it to be refused two months later.

The couple, who first fell in love in June 2012 but have never lived in the same country, are now facing the prospect of another 12 months apart while they appeal the decision.

For Nansi, 24, of Weir, the wait is all the more agonising as her condition gives her a life expectancy of just 41.

She first met Ramiz, 25, while in Turkey visiting her dad, who lives in Fethiye, and for the following two years made many trips to the country to see him.

Nansi, who is half-Turkish, said she had just got off another plane to see Ramiz last November, when it was confirmed the application had been refused. She said:

To meet the financial requirements for a non-EU spouse to be granted a visa, the UK national, the sponsor, must prove that you both have a combined income of at least £18,600 a year, which Nansi insists she has demonstrated.

Nansi, nee Pallavus, who lives on Rochester Close, cannot live in Turkey either, as she is dependent on a life-prolonging drug available on the NHS.

Nansi works as a sales manager for Travis Perkins in Nelson.
