Ten arrested over murder of homeless Salford man

Police investigating the murder of a man in Salford have now made ten arrests.

At around 1.20am on Wednesday 20 January, police were called to Irwell Street in Ordsall following reports that a tent located under a railway bridge was on fire.

When Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue extinguished the fire, a man's body was discovered in the tent.

The man was later identified as 23-year-old Daniel Smith and a post-mortem examination concluded that Daniel died from multiple injuries.Today, police have arrested three men, aged 26, 24 and 19, a 28-year-old woman and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder. They have all been taken into police custody for questioning.

Two men, aged 25 and 21, who were arrested on Sunday 24 January on suspicion of murder, remain in police custody.

A 16-year-old boy arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, and a 24-year-old man arrested on Friday, have both been bailed pending further enquiries.
