Inquest hears evidence in death of Hillsborough couple

Tracey Cox and boyfriend Richard Jones went to Hillsborough with his sister Stephanie.

Tracey, 23 and Rick, 25 never came home.

Today on day 266 of the inquests in Warrington the courtroom heard there is a possibility that an earlier or different intervention and more sustained efforts may have made a difference to their chances of survival.

Jurors were told how the couple could be seen on CCTV passing through the second opening of gate C at 14:53 before making their way in to pen 3 and towards the front.

Evidence from Ricks sister Stephanie told how she recalled Tracey losing her shoe and falling down but that she was picked up before disappearing from sight.

This was the last time Stephanie would see her alive.

Tracey was carried from the pen and placed on the pitch by constable Anthony Lomax at 15:26.

Mouth to Mouth resuscitation attempts were unsuccessful and Tracey was declared dead at 15.54.

In a previous statement one witness described finding Rick unconscious, he said he thought he heard another supporter say they could feel his pulse but he didn’t know who.

There is no evidence of Richards recovery from the pen.

Summing up the limited evidence available in his case counsel to the inquests Ms Lambert noted:

The Inquests continue.
