A man stabbed during a disturbance in Bacup over a year ago has sadly died in hospital.

Police responded to reports of a fight in Yorkshire Street, Bacup in the early hours of Saturday 22nd November 2014. Jamie Mulcahy received a stab wound to the chest during the incident and collapsed a short time later.

Mr Mulcahy never regained consciousness and had been receiving round the clock care since the incident and sadly passed away in the Royal Blackburn Hospital on Saturday 5th December.

In July, Jonathan Wrigley of the Wellington Hotel, Todmorden Road, Bacup, was convicted of Section 18 wounding and perverting the course of justice following trial at Preston Crown Court and was jailed for a total of 13 years and 6 months.

A second man, Curtis Munro, of Queen’s Road, Heywood had earlier admitted a charge of perverting the course of justice and was jailed for 16 months.

A Home Office post mortem examination has been carried out and Lancashire police are awaiting the results.
