The Chancellor George Osborne has announced a million-pound pledge to match donations given to Lancashire's Flood Appeal following Storm Desmond.

The donations will help go towards emergency response and clean-up operations in Lancashire and Cumbria, following the devastation caused last weekend's floods.

The Lancashire Flood Appeal stands has raised nearly £22,000 from public and statutory donations so far to help people who have had their Christmas ruined by Storm Desmond.

The Lancashire Flood Appeal made its first grant yesterday to St Michael's on Wyre Church of England Primary School. It will contribute to the cost of school visits to the Christmas pantomime and sports facilities for the school children before Christmas.

The general public, businesses and trusts can donate to the Recovery Fund’s Public Appeal online at the new dedicated website www.lancsfloodappeal.org.uk or by texting LFLD15 and a stated amount, eg. £10 to 70070.
