Former MP Michael Meacher honoured

A service will be held in Oldham today in memory of former MP Michael Meacher. A celebration of the former minister's life will take place at Oldham Parish Church of St Mary with St Peter on Rock Street at 2pm.

The 75 year old had been a Labour MP for Oldham West and Royton since 1970. He died after a short illness on October 21. A Book of Condolence will also be opened for people to pay tribute.

Mr Meacher's funeral was held on November 13 in Wimbledon. He was married to Lucianne, and has four children and nine grandchildren.

Mr Meacher's family has requested that any donations should be gifted to Amnesty International and/or Medicins Sans Frontieres.
