Sewerage rate to increase in 2016 to fund new services
A report commissioned by the Manx Utilities Authority has established that the Isle of Man's system and charging for sewage services are in line with other areas of the British Isles.
Cornwall Energy conducted the review, which will be brought before Tynwald later this month.
The review will seek the approval of Tynwald to increase the sewerage rate from 62p to 92p.
This would come into effect from April 2016, in line with the MUA's 20-year financial plan.
Chairman of the MUA Alf Cannan said that the charge rate is a fair and practical way of funding the cost to provide essential public sewerage services - such as replacing old systems in areas of the Island where raw sewage is impacting the environment.
