Neville offers more homeless people shelter in Stock Exchange building
Former Manchester United footballer Gary Neville has intervened to offer rough sleepers from Oxford Road's The Ark homeless camp in Manchester a place to shelter at the former Manchester Stock Exchange building.
Members of the Ark were evicted from their base on Oxford Road by Manchester Metropolitan University last week.
They say they were refused entry into the Stock Exchange building by squatters who had previously moved in there but in a Facebook post the group now claims they have personally promised shelter there by Neville.
The post read:
Neville has already forked out for tradesman to make the space habitable for homeless squatters and it’s understood that he is also paying for chefs from his Hotel Football to serve them up hot grub three times a week.
The retired United star - along with co-owner Ryan Giggs - wants to turn the site into a plush hotel but have allowed squatters to stay until work begins in February.
