Liverpool philanthropist opens up Anfield executive box for seriously ill children

It's not every day that your average football fan can enjoy the game from the comfort of an executive box but it's even more unusual for seriously ill children to get there.

But one philanthropist is offering seriously ill children and their families exactly that privilege.

Barrie Wells from Liverpool started the charity Box 4 Kids back in 2010, opening a box at his beloved Anfield for seriously ill children to go and watch Liverpool play.

The charity has been such a success that Barrie's box welcomed its 1000th guest this weekend.

Among them have been some of Liverpool's children most in need of what they call the few hours of feeling special to take their minds off their problems.

Now the charity is expanding quickly and inviting box owners across the country to open up their boxes for children in a similar position.

The result has been plans to open up boxes in more than 40 different sporting and entertainment venues across the country, including Wembley Stadium, other Premier League grounds, the O2 Arena and the Royal Albert Hall.

The Barrie Wells Truststill feels it can go further and do more for the children and has begun a social media campaign to push #box4kids to as many sporting venues as possible.
