Your photos: Northern Lights in the North West

These photos were taken across the North West as the colours of the Aurora Borealis lit up the skies last night.

The Northern Lights are caused by the collision between gas particles in the earth’s upper atmosphere and charged particles from the sun, the light can cause spectacular displays.

Most commonly associated with the Arctic Circle and northern countries such as Iceland, it was a rare treat for people across the region.
