A police officer has told the Hillsborough inquests that he did not check for signs of life in a teenage Liverpool fan because his face was covered.

Peter Roch helped carry insurance clerk Graham Wright into the temporary mortuary in the Sheffield Wednesday gymnasium in April 1989.

The court heard Mr Roch had initially indicated he first came across Graham at the Leppings Lane end of the pitch near the scene of the crush but he later said he had got the ends of the grounds mixed up.

He said today: "When I saw him he was covered so the assumption was that he had been treated."

Colleague Philip House told the court that he had a very limited memory of his own time with Graham and could not say whether he showed any signs of life.

The 17 year old travelled to the match with his friend James Aspinall who also lost his life in the disaster.
