A Detective Constable from Merseyside Police has been charged with misconduct in public office.

DC Michael McMillan is alleged to have made persistent contact with victims of crime for his own sexual purposes, during his time as a Detective Constable with the Family Crime Investigation Unit.

The 32-year-old is currently suspended from duty.

Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit has been investigating. The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has been managing the investigation.

The decision to charge was made by the Crown Prosecution Service.

McMillan will appear before Liverpool Magistrates Court on 3 December 2015.
