A Liverpool fan has told the Hillsborough inquests how a Warrington teenager showed no signs of life as he carried him across the pitch.

Barry Lamb, who had no first aid training, said he and other fans ran all the way from the Leppings Lane end towards the club gymnasium with Ian Whelan, 19, on an advertising hoarding.

Phillip Goss, a police officer on duty at the Sheffield Wednesday ground, said he believes there was one ambulance officer nearby but could not remember him checking for any vital signs.

Ian's parents and girlfriend identified his body the following day.

The court has previously heardhow the purchasing clerk left two surprise red roses on Joanne's doorstep as he left for Sheffield on 15th April 1989.
