Man left with collapsed lung after being tasered in Manchester
A man has been rushed to hospital with a collapsed lung after being Tasered by police responding to an attempted break-in in South Manchester.
The 35-year-old man was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment after being hit by the high-voltage weapon in the early hours of this morning.
Police say they were called to Montmano Drive in Didsbury just after 5am when the owner of a flat reported that a man had broken in through patio doors.
When officers arrived they found the "highly intoxicated" suspect who was Tasered, restrained and taken to MRI.
He is currently understood to be under sedation and in a stable condition.
“At about 5am this morning we had a call from the owner of a flat at Montmano Drive to say that a man has appeared to gain entry to his flat by pulling open the patio doors.“We responded and we came across a man who we believe to be the man responsible.“He was Tasered, restrained and taken to hospital.“He was heavily intoxicated at the time. He is now under sedation at MRI. He suffered a collapsed lung.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said an investigation is ongoing and police are currently making house-to-house inquiries.
