Duncan Ferguson to get Everton testimonial

Duncan Ferguson is to be honoured by Everton with a testimonial at Goodison Park in the summer.

The Blues will take on Villarreal from Spain on Sunday 2nd of August in a match to recognise Ferguson's 10 years of service as a player and current contribution as a coach.

The match will be Everton's pre-season game before the start of the new football season.

Everton say tickets will be priced at £20 for adults and £10 for Under-16s and Over-65s and will go on sale from 8am on Monday 29 June.

Ferguson is fondly remembered by many Everton fans for his ferocious centre-forward play and often rather short temper. He was nevertheless a talented striker and a determined leader who scored 72 goals for the club and remains their highest goalscorer in the Premier League.

He returned to the Club as a youth coach five years ago and was promoted to Roberto Martinez's first-team staff in February 2014.

The game could prove more than a lazy pre-season run-out given that Villarreal were the team that knocked Everton out of the Champions League at the play-off stage in their only season in the tournament.
