Macclesfield Town FC have made a tongue in cheek bid to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bosses at the Conference Premier League club have launched the outrageous campaign to bring the contest to the 6,355-capacity Moss Rose stadium.

The Cheshire club argues that with ‘free wifi at nearby Macclesfield library’ and constant temperatures of 14.1C it is well-placed to vie with the world’s greatest cities to host the contest 2026.

And in a reference to bribery scandal currently rocking Fifa, the club’s website cheekily states a budget of £40 was ‘set aside for gifts to the FIFA family’.
