Jodrell Bank observatory has won £12m funding for new visitor centre at the famous Cheshire telescope

Jodrell Bank observatory in Cheshire has been awarded £12million pounds of Heritage Lottery funding.

The money will be used to develop the site around the radio telescope into a visitor centre.

It will chart the heritage of space exploration and modern astrophysics.

The Lovell telescope in Cheshire, part of the University of Manchester, is a Grade-One Listed building.
