Woman dies after being hit by a bus

A woman has died after she was struck by a bus in Southport.

A 56-year-old man, who is thought to be the driver, has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The victim has not been identified.

It happened in Butts Lane in the town shortly before midnight last night.

Motorists are being warned that police have closed part of the area for forensic examinations of the scene.

Meols Cop Road remains closed between the Kew Roundabout and Butts Lane.
Police are asking people to continue to avoid Meols Cop Road.
Kew Roundabout has been re-opened allowing access to Town Lane and the nearby retail park.
