Peter Kay has been spotted in Salford filming for a new period drama.

The Manchester Evening News reports that the Bolton born comedian was spotted in a retro Seventies costume yesterday. He was surrounded by a team of extras as they took over the Eccles Liberal Club.

The club was transformed into the ‘Lady Gomme Community Club’ for what is understood to be a new BBC drama, Cradle to Grave, an adaptation of Danny Baker’s autobiography, Going to Sea in a Sieve.

And the comedian certainly seemed to be in high spirits as he played along with some classic Kay jokes when ‘garlic bread’ was shouted out while the cast tucked into their lunch.

Dressed in a dated brown suit, he replies with a sneaky rude gesture which has become a staple Peter Kay joke

Kay plays the role of Danny’s father, Fred ‘Spud’ Baker in the eight-part series, alongside Lucy Speed as his long-suffering wife Bet Baker, and Laurie Kynaston as a young Danny.

The series portrays the life of the Baker family, with Kay’s character mirroring Fred, the cheeky Del boy-like character.
