A couple of fronts are currently affecting northern England. Sunday's warm front is swiftly followed by a cold front bringing thicker cloud and rain for Sunday evening. Once this clears, we are in a brighter air mass on Monday; cooler again with a few showers which could turn wintry inland over the hills. Then for the new week, a series of fronts pull through bringing wet and windy spells, interspersed with drier interludes. Wintry showers and variable temperatures throughout with gales possible in the far NW on Wednesday.

Sunday night:

Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, these heavy for a time as a band of rain moves southeast across the region. Colder, breezier, and mostly dry conditions follow from the northwest during the early hours, lows 2c.

Monday:

Mostly dry with sunny spells, the best of which will be towards the southeast, but isolated wintry showers over Cumbria, perhaps giving snow over the fell tops. Colder than Sunday, highs of 7c 45f.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Cloud and occasional outbreaks of rain spreading south on Tuesday. Remaining unsettled Wednesday and Thursday, with outbreaks of rain and blustery showers turning increasingly wintry, and with strong winds. Cold.
